You're so sweet but you gotta know something. I have to have it my way.
The sun was setting fast on the desert which was just about the only thing these days that could put a smile on Aleksander’s face. It meant that he could be out. He could run. He could push his muscles and enjoy himself instead of be in fear. He could actually have time to himself and gather supplies for the camp. It was the only time of day any more that he could actually travel outside. Of course, if he was caught it would be by a light and that would sell him out instantly as a human. So when he broke in some place he had to be quick about it and avoid lights and souls at all costs.
So honestly, it wasn’t much of a time of enjoyment. There was still fear. But it was less stressful than stepping out in the daylight and it made him feel more at ease. Something about the shadows settled his thoughts these days. He could duck into them and travel. It was a talent you had to pick up quickly when you were being hunted. That and learning to run and hide. It wasn’t much of a life but it was the only life he had now. He didn’t even have anything to live for other than supplying the camp with food and items. And then he would always retreat and go back to his own section in the mountains which was actually quite a distance from the main camp. If they were taken, he didn’t want to be part of it. He didn’t even really socialize with the other people there. He knew maybe two or three of them but that was it and only because he gave them supplies. He had no need to be close to others now. None at all.
Aleksander settled down onto one of the larger hills here and looked out over the spreading desert and the setting sun. The park was closed already and it would be getting cold soon. It was always…shocking the way that the weather changed as soon as the sun was gone. Sure it was warmer here than where he had lived but still…the different between night and day still always confused his body. A soft sigh slipped through his lips. He was getting restless already and more than a little paranoid. Sitting out in the open always did that to him now but he was ready to leave and this was the quickest path into town.

"Mrrrrow!"
Carrie half-smiled and turned to see her calico cat, Lune, trotting after her. The cat had become so attached to Carrie after sharing a small meal with the girl when it was a lonely kitten. She had watched a Seeker get bitten by the mother cat and then took it away. She had had the strange feeling that they must've put it down. Carrie whistled softly through her teeth as the small cat stopped to sniff around a patch of dead grass. The cat perked up and ran to Carrie swiftly. "Good, Lune," she said as she knelt down to stroke the fur softly. As she heard some dead leaves crush and picked up Lune and stood closer to a large bunch of dead bushes, close to being tumble weeds, that were by her. She peered through them with her breath held and her hazel eyes wide. She watched as a lone soul jogged towards the gate. A late leaver. Carrie began to breath again once it was out of site. Lune purred in Carrie's arm and she scratched her behind the ear and smiled softly. She set Lune down and started to walk cautiously.
Why had the Earth had to have been invaded by these creatures? Carrie scowled at her feet. Her family...her friends...they were gone. Sabrina, Matt, Paris, Mom, Dad... all gone. It had been devastating to see Sabrina and Matt go. They'd been captured by Seekers and Matt had almost gotten away, stabbing one in the hand, but didn't succeed. He was shot in the leg. Sabrina'd been shot in the shoulder and side. Carrie shuddered. She kicked a rock and watched it go flying and land with a soft thud. She wanted them back so bad... Lune brushed against Carrie's leg, sensing her sadness and anger. Carrie sighed and picked up Lune again, holding her close. Her wavy brown hair fell softly to hide the sides of her face. It was slightly dirty and she wanted to find a spring to wash it, or try to anyway. Thinking of washing, she looked down at her dirty navy jeans. The bottoms were cut up some and the knees had holes in them. Her black tennis shoes were in slightly good condition, sort of. Her brown tank top covered by an old, worn jacket she'd found in an alley. The sleeves were torn in a few places and the zipper didn't work. The black fabric covered in dust. All in all, it was actually in pretty good condition.
Carrie started walking and looking around again. Her heart thudded quickly. It was almost wide-open space out here. There was some brush, some burrows in the ground, some thin trees, and some rocks. She looked down as she walked along, moving some rocks with her dirty tennis shoes and wrapping her light jacket tightly around herself. Carrie kept on walking, unaware that anyone was around here. It was closed anyway, right?

Aleksander thought momentarily that he heard a voice and he tensed quickly. He felt his entire body tighten up and prepare for the run and the chase that would ensue. He was getting so used to that really that it was driving him crazy. Alek strained his ears as best as he could to try to catch on any other sounds but none came. None except the heavy clink as the gate shut and closed for the night. That would be the last sound in the place besides him and he was fine with that. The silence of this place suiting him magnificently after being stuck in the camp for more than a couple days.
A soft sigh escaped through his lips and he stood from the rock. He dug the toes of his converse down against the hill that he was standing on. He stared out of the slowly darkening horizon, looking for signs of moment or anything else of the matter. Mostly now he thought that it was to be only snakes that he had to look out for in the places now. That and maybe a scorpion. He wasn’t entirely sure if they were actually here or not. He hadn’t seen one since he had been in Arizona and he hoped to god that he wouldn’t He figured he would probably panic if he did and then run screaming like a girl. Well maybe not that dramatic but he would definitely run or walk very quickly in the other direction to avoid it.
His brows furrowed though as he saw movement, and movement that was very close to him indeed. Something that made him nervous again and his body tensed once more. Instantly his hand shot down to his pocket and he pulled a little flashlight from its hook on his belt loop. “You there! What do you think you’re doing?” Alek flipped the light on the flashlight on and jumped from the rock. All he would need was the quick pass of light over the eyes and he’d known. Human or soul…either way he was ready to run regardless. He knew his way around her well enough and he knew that he could easily escape if it was indeed a soul.

Lune hissed and Carrie tensed as she saw light flash. This guy was probably a seeker. "Shit." She said it under her breath, quietly. As the light flashed she was afraid it was a Seeker. Really afraid. The problem was, it hit her eyes. Her bright hazel eyes that would give her away so easily. She turned on a heel and ran quickly. She let Lune drop from her arms and run with her. She quickly swerved, sending dust up and falling into a partially green bush thing...that actually wasn't very thorny except in some spots. Lune jumped in after her and Carrie peered out cautiously. What was a Seeker doing in here anyway? Didn't the gates just close? She calmed her breathing easily, although her heart felt like it would come out of her throat. She took a deep breath and pulled out the pocket knife that was in her back pocket. She rarely used it, but if this was a Seeker after her she would need to use it. Carrie suddenly felt panic as Lune started to creep out of the bushes. "Lune! Bad cat! Get back here!" she scolded her in a very hushed whisper. The cat's ear twitched back before perking forward again. Carrie bit her lip. God damn cat.

Aleksander gasped as the light hit the girl’s eyes. Here he had been thinking he was going to have to cut out for it. He had hoped that he had sounded demanding though and apparently it had done its job. It was hard enough to tell who was who around here but as soon as the light had hit the girl’s eyes he had known. She was a human just like him. And apparently his ruse had worked far too well because she had turned on her heel and cut out of there. “Wait!” It was all he managed to get out before he realized that she wasn’t going to wait after what he had just done to her. “Shit…” He frowned and clicked the button on his flashlight as he took off after her.
Alek came to a halt and scanned the area, cursing the darkness that was setting in here. It made it hard for him to see in this area. Scouring the town was always so much easier at dark…but this was a challenge. And then he spotted the cat and heard the rustle. He couldn’t help the chuckle that bubbled up out of his mouth. “Aw come here pretty kitty.” Aleksander knelt down as he got closer to the bush, knowing that the girl was in there. “Look I’m sorry…You could probably kill me for what I just did.”
His eyes fell on the bush and he focused hard, trying to see her through it though he failed. However, the cat trotted over to him and rubbed against his leg. Alek ran his hand against the cat gently before he looked at the bush. “I’m not one of them…oh hell.” He frowned before he grabbed his flashlight and flicked it back on, shining it on his eyes so she would be certain. “I just…had to be sure that you weren’t. I was ready to run…just in case.” He smiled at her apologetically, the strangest feeling he’d had in a long time. To smile was just wrong feeling…like he had never done it. Though he knew there had to be a time where he had indeed smiled, he just couldn’t remember it or what it had felt like.

Lune looked back at Carrie encouragingly before heading over to the boy. She purred softly and settled down next to him. Carrie furrowed her eyebrows. What the...? As he spoke, Carrie held her breath. It wasn't that she was trying to, it's just that it was a reaction. Lune purred softly and pawed at his leg playfully. Maybe he wasn't a Seeker... Lune didn't like them... but still, why'd he snap at her like that? She tried to think of something. But as he spoke again she lost her train of thought. She wouldn't trust him. He said he wasn't one of them but how could-- then the flashlight came on. He had such pretty blue eyes! Carrie was dazed for a minute... blue... not silver. Almost immediatly she tried to hug him. She hadn't seen a human since her brother and sister and to see one now...
Carrie slid out of the bush quickly, moving branches and such out of her way. Soon she was halfway out of the bush within seconds and she tackled the guy, a soft smile appearing on her face. When she realized what she was doing she pulled back and slunk to her bottom, the pain in her ankle not allowing her to sit the way she'd been. She twisted it when falling into the bush. Her cheeks turned a light red. "I-I'm sorry... I just haven't seen a human since... well since my brother and sister," she said, biting her lip. She started to stand up slowly, careful of her left ankle. She furrowed her eyebrows at the guy. "Give yourself a scar on your neck and a gun...well, you could definantly pass for a Seeker," she said, wincing as she said Seeker. He sure did sound like one when he wanted.

Aleksander grinned brightly at the cat, the first real joy he had felt in…he couldn’t remember when. Most pets ran from him though it was because they had become accustomed to the souls so much now that a human was a long forgotten thing. One that was alien to them. He hated it. But to have this cat rub against him and want to be played with actually made him happy. Alek pawed back at her tiny paw with one of his fingers, his eyes shining brightly at the little creature.
And then next thing he knew he was sprawled against the hard dirty ground of the desert floor, shock showing itself easily on his features. But there was still obvious enjoyment shining through in his eyes. He didn’t even mind that she had just knocked him down to the ground in her excitement. Actually it made him feel very human again. Almost, there for a second, like there was nothing to run from and this was just a meeting between old friends. But he didn’t even know this girl.
“I understand…more than you probably think.” His eyes connected with her as he pushed himself up to a sitting position, hands back behind him to hold himself up. Alek lifted his hand to the back of his neck and felt along his smooth skin. “Ah…good idea. I hadn’t thought of it.” At the suggestion and ran the back of his hand across his neck to clear the dirt off and then he dug into his left pocket, pulling a knife from it. “Would you like to do it or should I?” He raised his brows at her, a smile on his lips.
